Samhain was celebrated exactly three days before and three days after November 1st and the origin of the celebration had nothing to do with carved pumpkins or trick or treating. The people used a latern made of a turnip. The celebration gave a chance to every barbarian to drink, eat and to have fun. The holiday was strictly watched by the whole society.
As the time passed Europe got converted to Christianity and banned Samonios in order to save the All Saints day while Samhain became All Hollow?s eve. However, the Halloween that we know nowadays does not have much in common with Samhain.
Actually Halloween and All Saints day are related because Halloween means ?the night before the feast of all saints? while All Hallow?s day is the worldwide [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] known All Saints Day. The current Halloween evolved during the Christianization of [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] Europe and it was imported in America by European colonists. This is how Halloween was created by emigrants. There are still some villages in the world that celebrate Samonios and one of them is located in Belgium. However, most of the countries celebrate Halloween.
Most of the European [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] countries consider Halloween as an American [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] celebration. The European people pay more attention to culture and tradition than to commercial events. Belgians celebrate Halloween but there are [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] some villages in the country that refuse [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] to adopt this celebration. The celebration there is quite [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] different ? Belgians do not open their doors to unknown persons so you can not ask for candies. In France the holidays is not very popular ? only few children are running at the doors asking for goodies. In England they celebrate Guy Fawkes Day which is similar to Halloween because children are wearing fancy costumes and use masks made of beets and pumpkins. Scottish people prefer to [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] celebrate their ancient pagan holidays. The children receive [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] candies [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] only [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] if the entertain you.
Actually trick or treat was created in Ireland so this is the country where the children will enjoy different goodies, sweets and candies [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] and the houses will be decorated with Halloween lights. Spanish people love to have parties so this is why Halloween is well-known in their country. In Portugal Halloween is not celebrated while in Italy only in few regions have organized parties.
The interest on Halloween is growing and after some years more and more countries will start celebrating this holiday. It is not important that originally it was a pagan holiday. What matters is that both children and adults have fun and this is the important here. After all this holiday is only once per year so it is only up to us to spend it in joy and fun.
Don't forget to get to make your costume truly unique and realistic.
