The Sunshine Coast Council is to be congratulated for the way it is embracing new technology in renewable energy sources, [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] and as part of its strong environmental protection policies it has now partnered with several solar companies to install silver cell solar panels on community buildings.
These l installations are just part of a wide range of initiatives at [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] local, state and federal government levels, which reflectAustralia's widespread commitment to sustainable practices and renewable energy use.
The new state of the art Arts and Ecology Center at Maroochy Regional Bushland Botanical Garden was formerly opened by senator the Hon John Hogg and councilors Jenny McKay and Debbie Blumel on August 26, 2011. The new centre means that the gardens are not only showcasing the regions [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] lush [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] rainforest and native plants, but also demonstrate how much a building can be eco-friendly.
There is also the Greener Living Program, which includes sustainable living resources and information and?offers rebates to assist with installing solar panels, solar hot water, LP gas vehicle [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] conversion and more.
As with all of their environmental initiatives and pangrams, the council hopes that [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] the new centre will inspire residents to consider more sustainable building practices and toencourage more solar panels to be installed on the Sunshine Coast, [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] from households and small businesses [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] through to more large public buildings.
The project was partly funded by the federal government [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] of Australia through the solar home and community program. Currently there are 3 successful installations; the Lake Kawana Community Center, the Caloundra Library, and the Glasshouse Mountains Visitor Information Center. Collectively the systems are making huge cuts to the city's carbon emission and are expected to save 550 tons of carbon dioxide in a span of 25 years; equivalent to taking 15 cars off the road continually for 25 years.
Numerous programs have also been implemented to promote the use of . The Living Smart Homes Program offers households a well-designed plan for how to reduce your carbon footprint while saving money. The program will provide participants information about environmental protection and their role and responsibility to reduce their own carbon footprint.
The Climate Smart Homes is an extensive state government initiative as part of the Queensland sustainability grant to help solve global warming. The program will provide low cost energy saving products, information and services, and is providing widespread educationthrough its extensive media promotion.
"The Arts and Ecology centre will be a real community hub for the gardens, providing valuable insights into the Coast's native plants, whilst showcasing cultural events, learning opportunities and green art activities," Councilor McKay said.
The completion of the project marks another achievement created by the partnership between the federal government of Australia and the city council of Sunshine Coast which is having a beneficial effect on the local community.
The $3 million dollar project is a truly an engineering marvel. The design of the centre reduces energy consumption by maximising natural sunlight and allowing the proper flow of air for ventilation. The Arts and Ecology [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] Center has also [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] installed an array of solar panels to generate its own electricity for its operation.
The Arts [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] and Ecology center is now fully operational and has programs already in place [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] which aim to increase the region's residents awareness about the native plants and other natural treasures of the region, and ultimately take part in the preservation of these priceless natural beauty.
Solar panel systems have improved rapidly in their efficiency of late so that smaller roof space is needed to give a high power output; for [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] e.g. the panels on the Caloundra [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] library can generate over 7000 kilowatts per annum which is enough to power half of its total power needs.
