Hans Rudolf Giger just looks frightening. Born in Chur, Switzerland, the surrealist painting, sculptor and set designer is most noted for his Academy Award for Best Visual Effects thanks to his work in creating and doing design work on the film "Alien." Giger was noted for his Lovecraft inspired drawings of gruesome creators that writer of "Alien", Dan O'Bannon was impressed by. He approached Giger to work [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] on the film and [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] the rest is history.
Giger has done a lot more than his work on "Alien," though, with his books of macabre [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] painting entitled "Necronomicon" and "Necronomicon II" bringing him worldwide success as one of the darkest and most unique artists of the generation. His nightmarish works are often compared to the works of Ernst Fuchs and Salvidor Dali, the latter of whom Giger was able to meet. Giger has said much of his work is inspired by his condition of night terrors which [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] often wake and frighten him in the middle of the night where he would hear terrible sounds like alien or primal screams.
One notable part of Giger's history is the obscenity lawsuit brought against the band Dead Kennedys after they used one of his pieces as artwork for the liner notes of their album. The lawsuit almost bankrupty the band and lead singer Jello [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] Biafra.
Giger even has a bar [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] named after him in Tokyo, but it folded [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] in a [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] few years. There are also two [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] other Giger bars in his native Switzerland which Giger helped to design. His artwork is often seen as a precursor [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] to the modern cyberpunk movement and has also [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] greatly influenced much of the science fiction fetishist community that could even be seen as a [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] precursor to the steampunk subgenre. And last but not least, two [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] video games, "Dark Seed" and "Dark Seed [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] II" were designed by Giger and effectively evoke the darkness and terror of his work in game form.
